Located near historic Stony Brook Village,
SBU’s Main Campus offers the surrounding
community many activities. Seawolves fans
can delight in the university’s 18 Division I
athletics programs and can take in football,
soccer and lacrosse games in the state-of-
the-art Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. For art-
goers, the five-theater Staller Center for the
Arts offers a rich program of theater, dance,
classical music and popular entertainment.
It hosts master classes and concerts by
internationally renowned musicians, including
the Grammy Award-winning Emerson String
Quartet, which for more than two decades
had a significant presence at the university.
Every summer, the Stony Brook Film Festival
brings leading and emerging independent
filmmakers and fans to campus. The Zuccaire
Gallery exhibits works by celebrated artists,
SBU students and distinguished faculty of
the Department of Art. On Long Island’s East
End, the Pollock-Krasner House and Study
Center — the former home of abstract artists
Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner — is a public
museum and library developed and preserved
by the Stony Brook Foundation. The house,
located in Springs, New York, is where Pollock
and Krasner created many of their best
known works. The study center, which
features a 4,500-volume art reference library
at Stony Brook Southampton, focuses on
modern American art, with special attention
to the world-renowned eastern Long Island
artists’ community.
