Recommended Naming Resolution - College of Engineering and Applied Sciences Building Fund and the Wexler Research Lab

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that the Stony Brook Council approve naming the "College of Engineering and Applied Sciences Building Fund" and formally recognizes one of the research labs within the Multidisciplinary Engineering Building as the "Wexler Research Lab" in recognition of his leadership commitment to Stony Brook University.

BACKGROUND

WHEREAS, Peter L. Wexler is a distinguished alumnus of Stony Brook University’s College of Engineering and Applied Sciences and a nationally recognized engineering and technology leader, whose career includes founding and leading innovative companies, advancing wireless and software technologies, and serving in senior executive and advisory roles across academia and industry; and

WHEREAS, Peter L. Wexler has been a steadfast and deeply engaged supporter of Stony Brook University for more than fifteen years, contributing both his time and philanthropic resources to advance the mission, reputation, and long-term excellence of the University, with a particular focus on engineering education, research, and innovation; and

WHEREAS, Stony Brook University is proud to honor its longstanding association with Peter L. Wexler, whose commitment reflects a profound belief in the power of public research universities to educate engineers, fuel discovery, and address complex global challenges; and

WHEREAS, Peter L. Wexler has made a generous gift of $1,000,000 to establish the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences Building Fund, supporting the development of the new Multidisciplinary Engineering Building, a cornerstone facility designed to foster interdisciplinary research, hands-on learning, and technological innovation; and

WHEREAS, In recognition of this leadership commitment, one of the three research labs within the Multidisciplinary Engineering Building has been designated as the Wexler Research Lab, providing a lasting platform for advanced research and collaboration aligned with the College’s academic mission;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE STONY BROOK COUNCIL, THAT:

That, in recognition of Peter L. Wexler’s exceptional generosity, sustained engagement, and enduring connection to Stony Brook University, the Stony Brook Council hereby endorses the naming of the "College of Engineering and Applied Sciences Building Fund" and formally recognizes one of the research labs within the Multidisciplinary Engineering Building as the "Wexler Research Lab," honoring his lasting impact on the College, its students, and the future of engineering at Stony Brook University.

The Stony Brook Local Council authorizes Chair, Kevin Law, to transmit this resolution to the Board of Trustees of the State University of New York.
