On behalf of the Artificial Intelligence Innovation Institute (AI3), the Office for Research and Innovation invites applications for the Secunda Family Foundation Cohort 3 Empire Postdoctoral Fellows Program, which will support Stony Brook University to host a Postdoctoral Fellow, secure commitment host fellows in pursuit of building robust research teams, nurture emerging scientific talent, and ensure the specialized human talent necessary to maximize discovery using Empire AI. Stony Brook University can submit TWO nominations to this program.

WHAT DOES IT FUND: The program will fund a highly skilled post-doc to advance utilization and optimization of the Empire AI infrastructure. This role should be recruited in winter 2027 for an anticipated fall 2027 start. Please avoid projects that are too commercial oriented, duplicative to commercial efforts in the same field, or do not need the computing power of EAI and can be done on local resources.

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS: No restrictions

AWARD: Postdoctoral salary of $85,000. The fellow position is funded for two (2) years, with no guarantee of renewal by the Secunda Family Foundation.

COST SHARE: Not required

SPONSOR DEADLINE: July 31, 2026

 

A complete pre-application should comprise of the following:
  • Proposed Focus Area (no more than 1 paragraph): Describe the computational problem the Fellow will research.
  • Importance (no more than 1 paragraph): Explain why the computational problem is important to research. Include how this research will benefit the public good.
  • Empire AI Alignment (no more than 1 paragraph): Explain how this position will maximize Empire AI utilization. Explain why it is necessary to use Empire AI, and why the project cannot be completed using local resources.
