Skateboarding, Cycling and Rollerblading Policy

Policy:

Due to personal injury and increased damage to University property, the recreational use of skateboards, bicycles and rollerblades on University property is generally prohibited. Skateboarding, cycling and rollerblading are permitted for transportation purposes only on sidewalks that are clear of pedestrian traffic.

Skateboarders, cyclists and rollerbladers must use extreme caution at all times when traveling on campus, remaining mindful of the superior right of others to a safe campus environment. Skateboards, bicycles and rollerblades shall not be ridden into campus buildings and classrooms and shall be stored so as not to create an obstruction/trip hazard or damage University property.

Wearing radio/cassette/mp3 players, head phones, ear phones, ear buds or similar listening devices while skateboarding, cycling and rollerblading is prohibited. Skateboarders, cyclists and rollerbladers may not be towed by bicycles or motor vehicles.

Procedures

Sanctions for Noncompliance with University Regulations

Skateboarders, cyclists and rollerbladers are subject to disciplinary action and, as appropriate, legal citation for violations of this policy, including the failure to stop at the scene of an accident in which they have been involved that results in property damage and or injury. Identification must be presented to the other party and the accident reported to the University Police Department. The University will seek restitution if University property is damaged or destroyed.

University police officers are authorized to take possession of skateboards, bicycles or rollerblades from users who act without caution or do not comply with this policy. Parents of offenders under the age of 17 must appear at the University Police Department in order to claim the skateboards, bicycles or rollerblades. University police may ban any offender from riding in certain areas of the campus or on the entire campus for up to one year or longer should there be repeat offenses.
