Lecture Series Policy

What is an OLLI Lecture Series Speaker?
An OLLI Lecture series speaker is anyone other than the originally scheduled workshop leader who will be presenting to the entire OLLI membership be it face to face or virtually.

When do OLLI Lecture series events take place?
Lecture Series Speaker presentations are NOT often held during the time of the workshops and more commonly held where there is as little conflict as possible to increase member participation.

Who can suggest a speaker for the OLLI Lecture series?
Any active OLLI member (including workshop leaders and committee members) can suggest a speaker or refer the OLLI Office to someone they have a contact with that might be an appropriate speaker.

  • Workshop leaders may choose to have a guest speaker convert to a lecture series speaker if they feel it will benefit the entire membership rather than just their workshop participants.

How do I notify OLLI that I have a suggestion or prospective speaker for the OLLI Lecture Series?

Send an email with the following information to: OLLI@stonybrook.edu

  1. Name of suggested/ prospective speaker
  2. Contact information for suggested/ prospective speaker
  3. Lecture topic of the suggested/ prospective speaker
  4. Proposed dates (if applicable)
    (Notice: A minimum of 4 weeks' advance notice is required prior to proposed dates.)

 

Important Information

  • If a Lecture Series Speaker has specific political party affiliations and is speaking about a political topic or is employed by a University other than Stony Brook University, this affiliation must be shared with SBU.
  • Lecture Series Speakers ARE NOT permitted to promote or sell goods or services in any way shape or form for their own benefit.
  • Workshop leaders who do not comply with these policies will have their guest speaker privileges revoked.
  • All Lecture Series Speakers will be provided with a copy of the Volunteer Identification Agreement form and the Member Code of Conduct to review prior to presenting.
    • All speakers need to be aware of all policies regarding approved conduct and OLLI & SBU policies on diversity, inclusion, and participation.
  • All Speakers of the OLLI Lecture Series will be provided a letter of gratitude from the OLLI main office and a branded token of appreciation.
