Stony Brook, NY, May 23, 2016 – The second of two EMS First Responder vehicles begins operation on Monday, May 23, providing coverage in the areas of Greenport, East Marion and Orient.
The First Responder Program staffs Stony Brook Medicine paramedics in New York State Certified First Responder vehicles that are fully fortified with basic and advanced life support equipment.
From Monday to Friday between 6am-6pm, it is more difficult for the Fire Departments to rapidly provide response crews as many of the volunteers are working out of the area. The program, a partnership between Stony Brook University Hospital and six local Fire Departments, seeks to supplement the local emergency medical service responders and attend to 911 calls as quickly as possible.
Mattituck, Cutchogue and Southold are already covered by a First Responder vehicle.
