Stony Brook University Residence Halls Certified LEED Gold

STONY BROOK, NY, July 27, 2012 – The U.S. Green Building Council has awarded Stony Brook University’s Nobel Halls a LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification verified by the Green Building Certification Institute. LEED is the nation’s preeminent program for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings.

Named for Nobel Prize winners C.N. Yang and Paul Lauterbur, both former faculty members at Stony Brook, Nobel Halls encompasses two buildings with 600 beds and 173,000-square-feet. Nobel Halls opened in the fall semester of 2010 and are among only a handful of residence halls in the State University of New York system to receive a LEED certification and the first on the campus of Stony Brook.
