Media Advisory for Wednesday, March 8 at 12:30pm, CT

Stony Brook University President Samuel L. Stanley Jr. undergraduate student, HeForShe steering committee member Bridget Foley  and graduate student Tayisha R. Saint Vil will share  what students are looking for, how Stony Brook University is making changes and what an equal future on a college campus might look like.

Looking through the gender lens, this SxSWedu case study will examine a pivotal topic in education today: equality, inclusion and diversity. As one of 10 University Champions worldwide and one of two US universities that are part of the   UN Women’s HeForShe movement, Stony Brook University has taken bold steps to ensure gender equality on its campus with initiatives including HeForShe, a mandatory First-Year Seminar 101 Course to learn about gender awareness and equality and the installation of all-gender restrooms -- the first in the public SUNY system to do so. The University looks to inspire and support a gender-equal society and establish how to effectively communicate about gender overall.
