SBU’s Marine Sciences Center To Host Fundraiser To Help Restore Shinnecock Bay

SBU’s Marine Sciences Center will host a “Clams for Clams” cocktail reception/sunset cruise fundraiser and tour of the new Marine Sciences Center to help raise funds to restore Shinnecock Bay and strengthen the local clam population.


Friday, July 11, 2014   6:00-8:30pm (sunset cruise begins at 7 p.m.)


Stony Brook University’s Marine Sciences Center (8 Little Neck Road at Stony Brook’s Southampton Campus)


Funds will go toward supporting the efforts of the Shinnecock Bay Restoration Program (ShiRP) to restore the bay to its former health, which includes building clam sanctuaries to enhance clam reproductive output, increase water quality and help control harmful algae bloom.  Different level sponsorships are available.


Take I-495 (Long Island Expressway) east to Exit 70, then turn right on County Road 111; follow the signs for State Route 27 East/Montauk – Sunrise Highway.  Take Route 27 East (which becomes County Road 39) and proceed 19 miles to the Southampton Campus.  While the event will be held at the Marine Sciences Center on 8 Little Neck Road, parking has been reserved in the Stony Brook Southampton parking lot just across Montauk Highway near the Avram Theatre.  For your convenience and safety, a shuttle bus is available to take you to the Marine Sciences Center (2 minute ride).
