Bio:
Amanda "Mandy" Flanagan serves as the Department Manager for Mechanical Engineering at Stony Brook University. Since joining the department in 2017 as Undergraduate Program Coordinator, she has worked closely with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and industry partners to support its educational and research mission.
In addition to overseeing the department’s business operations, Mandy is an instructor for MEC 300: Professional Conduct for Engineers, where she teaches engineering ethics, professional communication, career readiness, and professional development. Drawing on her previous experience as a career advisor, she enjoys helping students connect their classroom experiences to future career opportunities and develop the skills needed to succeed as engineering professionals.
Mandy holds an MBA and a BS in Advertising from Quinnipiac University. She is actively involved in service and leadership across Stony Brook University and serves as the founding Site Director of the UUP FAST Fund, which provides emergency financial assistance to students facing unexpected hardships.
Her commitment to supporting students and strengthening the university community has been recognized with the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences Award for Excellence in Professional Service (2022) and the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service (2025).
