My name is Sanche Graham. I was born in Jamaica, West Indies, and migrated to the Jamaica section of Queens, NY at the age of three. I developed a serious passion for the sciences while participating in the science research and Medical/Pharmacology programs at Thomas Edison High School. In these programs, I learned how to research, devise, and carry out notable science projects. A project that I designed during my sophomore year in high school competed and won the Investigative Science Competition at Queens College. Though the Medical/Pharmacology course was very intense, it further encouraged me to aim for a career in medicine. When I achieve this I will become the first doctor in my family. This is also another driving force for me to continue with my aspiration to become a physician. Currently I am a freshman in the WISE program. Upon admission to Stony Brook, I declared myself an engineering science major. Since then I have changed my major to biochemistry and I plan to minor in applied mathematics and statistics. I feel very privileged to be able to work on a research project so early in my college career. Although I know that I would like to become a physician, I am still very interested in various fields of science especially when I can see a direct effect on people. While is this course I hope to create a project in which I can see a correlation between lasers and biology that way this experience will be most fulfilling for me. February 11, 2008
