AMARA TAZEEM

My name is Amara Tazeem. I was born in Pakistan and so my native language is not English, but Urdu. I came to the U.S. when I was six years old, and the most exciting moment in my academic career was going to Brooklyn Technical H.S.. I was really looking forward to going to this school as a means of preparing me for my future career. I guess even back then I had some idea that I wanted to do something technical with my life. When I was little my plan was to grow up and invent a robot like Rosie from "The Jetsons," who would be able to do all the cleaning on her own. I've always had this thought in the back of my mind, that I'll try to do something in my life that no one else has done before. It's sort of an inspiration for me. I don't know if I'll be able to reach this goal, but as someone once said, Aim for the stars and if you fall short you'll still be high enough, or something like that. If you try your best you'll always be the best in your eyes.

Right now, I'm a Mechanical Engineering major at Stony Brook University. I wanted to learn engineering because it seems like it is an application of all the principals that are taught in physics. I first took physics in high school and was completely awed by it. I had never seen something taught in school that had such a direct relation to our everyday life. It seemed like throught physics one could actually understand how the world and the man made objects in it operate. I wanted to learn more about it then and I am persuing this major now so that I can gain this knowledge, and hopefully do something great with it.
