Today at WISE, we started off by recapping the events from our prior meeting. After the rest of our group showed up, we played a "game". We were required to predict how far away we needed to stand so we could cover a sign on the door with another object held at arm's length. First, we determined a proportion. it was the [diameter of the object] over [arm's length] equal to [diameter of the size of the sign] over the [distance from the door]. We tested this proportion and found out that our predictions were quite accurate. After our game, we used a laser to see how light traveled around an object. We also used proportions to predict how far away that would also be. Another experiment was determining how to move mirrors to get a laser beam to pass through two pinholes and watched diffraction. We all took turns helping each other figure it out. While Dr.Noe went to get some liquid nitrogen, Mr. Thompson helped us learn about resonance and the different frequencies. When Dr. Noe returned, we used the liquid nitrogen to visualize the laser beams and their paths again. Kelli Greenberg(Mt.Sinai), Sam Butzke(Comsewogue), and Adrienne Matonti(Comsewogue)~~
