Biography: Nina Han My name is Nina Han. I was born in Beijing, China, and I came to America when I was 14 years old. I started my education in America in William Cullent Bryant High School. It was a great school in Astoria, Queens. In this high school I had the opportunity to take AP Physics B, AP Chemistry and AP Calculus BC. Those courses had built a great basic for my education in college. Right now, I am a freshman and I am taking PhY142. PHY142 is a very intersting course which was a follow up with PHY141. Because of this course and professor Durst, I am very facsinated by physics right now. Although my major is applied math and statistics, I believe it is very important to apply math into physics which is more of a real life thing. On my trip back to China this winter, I passed by the north pole on the plane. Luckily, I was able to observe aurora with own eyes. The aurora was in a greenish blue color. It was like a colorful sheet that hang from the sky. This experience reminded me of how much I was interested in light and lenses since I was really young. I remember one of my favorite thing was to gaze at the sky when I was young. I love the way that rainbows appears and the wonderful blue color that the sky appears. I have noticed that lenses can make images since I was in elementry school and I love doing that over and over. Luckly, WSE 187 give me a chance to study in the Laser Learning Center which I believe will be a very precious experience in my college life. I will learn a lot and impress myself with all the interesting things about light, lenses and so on.
