Summary
Mueller calculus fully describes how a medium reacts with polarized
light. Mueller matrix images of light backscattered off a substance
can act as an identifying ``fingerprint'' for the substance. For a
given medium, the intensity patterns with help of false-coloring
create unique dipole patterns. This method, which medical researchers
have used to identify cancerous cell suspensions, was utilized to
record how the concentration of a latex sphere solution effects the 16
matrix elements.
