My name is Lidiya Mishchenko. I recently completed my freshman year of college in UMBC. I am working this summer for the Laser Teaching Center at Stony Brook University. I am very excited and I cannot wait to start doing research, though I do not have any specific project in mind, as of yet. I have always been fascinated with physics. My love of authors such as Isaac Asimov and Arthur Clarke spurred my interest in this science. I have never done extensive research in optics, but the properties of light have captivated me for quite some time. My mathematical background is solid. I have taken college courses up to multivariable calculus. I have only taken introductory physics courses, but I love reading physics articles and expanding my background in the field. In my spare time, I love reading fiction and all kinds of literature. I also enjoy playing sports with my friends and writing short stories. I don't know what kind of work I would like to do after graduate school. I definitely want to pursue physics further and I will hopefully have the opportunity to do research in the future.
