Today Justin Tian, an undergraduate student completing his project at the
Laser Teaching Center, gave a presentation about his work. He has a
crystal through which he sends a sound wave. The sound wave induces
regions of varying index of refraction in the crystal. When he sends a
laser beam through the crystal he can see diffraction. He found his
experimental results to be analgous to Dr. Schneble's work with the
optical lattice in the Bose Einstein Condensate. He finished the talk by
showing us the set-up and the diffraction pattern he was able to produce.
