A proposal for the construction of an apparatus to generate near-ultraviolet light at 389nm through various non-linear optical effects such as Sum Frequency Generation and Fiber Amplification. The goal is to generate up to 1 Watt of power through the mixing in a non-linear crystal of a Verdi laser at 532nm and a 1447nm laser diode. Problems that need to be addressed and possible solutions. Also explorations into a alternative method for the non-linear mixing.
