Biography

I am Chiu Yin Lee, a current student at Stony Brook University. I grew up in the small, but diverse neighborhood of Borough Park, Brooklyn, New York. With Pizzerias run by Italians, Chinese restaurants, and a Jewish supermarket within two blocks, Borough Park is one of the most diverse places within the Metropolitan City.

My first spark ignited during 7th grade biology class. From DNA to the breakdown of the cell, I was constantly captivated. Along with my teachers passion, biology quickly became my favorite class. My strong interest led me to take higher level science courses in high school, including AP Physics C, AP Chemistry, AP Computer Science, and a game programming class. Aside from class, I was an active member in my high school Science Olympiad Team, where I competed with other high school and taught my fellow colleagues materials on some of the ``events``.

To further pursue my interest, I attended the Cooper Union Summer STEM program the summer between my junior and senior year of high school. For six weeks, I learned the process of engineering and employed my knowledge to create different Biomedical Engineering models using household items and strict budgets. Although it was short, the Summer STEM program made me realized how much I enjoy the process of building items, whether it be using softwares, such as SolidWorks or physical hot-gluing materials together. This experience quickly put engineering as one of my favorite fields.

I joined the Laser Teaching Center to not only gain experience researching in a lab, but also to learned more about optics in non-classroom experience.
