Support SoCJ during Giving Day April 27
Stony Brook’s School of Communication and Journalism will participate in the university’s Giving Day on April 27. Funds will be used to expand student support services, with a particular attention to expanding student professional development and summer programs for prospective students.
“In all of our classes, SoCJ students learn to work collaboratively and tell important stories that can make a difference in society,” said Laura Lindenfeld, dean of the SoCJ and executive director of the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science. “Through high school summer programs and additional skills programming before graduation, they will understand and be ready to fill these critical roles as reporters and media professionals.”
In recent years, the School has significantly expanded its academic programs, adding a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication and a Master of Science in Science Communication, and revising its existing Master of Science in Journalism. All three programs, in addition to the School’s journalism bachelor’s program, are deeply committed to creating and sharing stories and information that is accurate and that fully engages community members to discuss and solve problems in inclusive ways.
