Pre-retirement planning is vital in today's economy. To help you with your planning, the Governor's Office of Employee Relations (GOER) will sponsor DIRECTIONS: Pre-retirement Planning Seminars on the following dates for ERS members who are within 5 years of retirement eligibility:

There are two sessions available:

  • Wednesday, October 4, 2006
    08:30AM - 04:30PM
    Location: Islandia Marriott
  • Thursday, October 5, 2006
    08:30AM - 04:30PM
    Location: Islandia Marriott

Those of you who are considering retirement within the next few years will find the seminar especially helpful. Seminar topics will include an Overview to Retirement Planning, NYS Pension Benefits, Health Insurance Benefits for Retirees, Social Security Benefits and the NYS Deferred Compensation program.

The registration forms for each seminar can be found at our benefits section follow the link to “State Benefits” then click on “Pre-Retirement Seminar for ERS Members Over Age 50.” The completed form must be returned to me at Benefits, Z=0751 or faxed to 632-1350 no later than August 17, 2006. We will forward your registration form to GOER for their consideration. YOU MAY SIGN UP FOR ONE SEMINAR ONLY. GOER regrets that you may not bring a spouse, partner or significant other to the seminar because the number of seats available to Stony Brook is very limited. Due to the limited seating available, you will not be eligible to attend if you have attended a DIRECTIONS seminar in the past. Please note that lunch and beverages are not provided.

Approximately two weeks before the seminar, GOER will mail a confirmation letter and directions to the seminar to you at your workplace if you are approved to attend so it is vital that your registration form contain a complete, legible address. The Benefits Office will notify you at your work address if you are not approved to attend.

If you have requested a reservation for this seminar in the past and have not been approved to attend, please indicate that next to “Special Accommodations Required” on the registration form. If you are approved to attend the seminar but cannot attend, you must return your confirmation letter to me so that it can be used by another employee.

Note: Requests for reservations should only be made with your supervisor's pre-approval.

Employees who have attended similar seminars have found them useful and informative; we encourage you to participate.
