Asad Moughal ’19 has dreamed of working at Google for as long as he can remember.  Thanks to the Stony Brook Career Center, he’s now taken steps toward achieving that goal. “I was able to connect with three alumni, all of whom had amazing things to say about everything from resume advice to interview preparation,” Asad said. “Best of all, I was able to connect with an alum who works at Google, which is a dream employer of mine, and this alumnus was more than open to sharing her experience and advice.” Asad, a marketing intern for the Career Center and…

The Class of 2017 doesn’t waste time. Just before they officially moved their tassels from right to left, the graduating class gave over $15,000 in support of the Stony Brook Fund for Excellence and other critical initiatives on our campus. Senior Class Senator Jonathan Rodriguez ’17, member of the Senior Legacy Council, announced the Senior Class Gift during Stony Brook University’s Commencement ceremonies on May 19. “We hope this contribution allows us to leave a living legacy at Stony Brook University and in the surrounding community,” Rodriguez said. Under the leadership of the Senior Legacy Council, more than 500 seniors…

“Good Morning President Stanley, esteemed platform members, faculty, parents, family, friends and fellow students: Congratulations, Class of 2017! My name is Jonathan Rodriguez, Senior Class Senator, and I am excited to present this year’s Senior Class Gift. Since the 2004–2005 academic year, the class representatives and the Office of the Dean of Students have given students an opportunity to give back and show their support for Stony Brook University. Over the years, students have responded, raising thousands of dollars to fund meaningful initiatives on our campus. They have supported scholarships, student life, advanced the reach of the University’s research and…

Why do I give back to Stony Brook? Sitting here in a coffee shop only a couple weeks away from graduation, that’s the question I’m trying to craft a concise answer to, and truthfully, it’s proving a little harder than expected. For me, there is no single reason; instead, a jumbled list as long and diverse as the experiences I’ve had at Stony Brook exists in my brain. So, what are those reasons? Let me name a few. Reason one. Throughout my time at Stony Brook, I have been the grateful recipient of two scholarships that were made possible in…

Stony Brook University, and especially the Department of Athletics, has had a major impact on my life. Throughout my four years, I’ve grown in more ways than one and I’m confident that I am prepared and eager for success after I graduate. For instance, the Office of Life Skills — the center for academic advising for student athletes and one of my favorite additions to Athletics throughout my time here — sets up mock interviews, networking events, business etiquette dinners and more for student athletes. Without them, I wouldn’t have had the real-life experiences that have helped me prepare and…

I received an internship in Athletic Marketing, which allowed me to create many new opportunities and helped build my passion for marketing and communications. This opportunity later helped in my being elected to the Undergraduate Student Government as its Vice President for Communications and Public Relations. Here, I grew as a leader and gained valuable experiences that shaped me into the person I am today. In my role with USG, I was able to listen to my peers and actively worked to bring their voices to the forefront. Through their input, I was able to help make change on campus,…

Adjusting to college is always a difficult experience. However, I found coming from a small high school adapting to the large community here at Stony Brook to be quite challenging. During my second semester I joined Theta Phi Alpha. This sorority not only gave me lifelong friends, but made the community feel a lot smaller and more personal. I no longer felt like just a student in a 500 person lecture hall, but a part of something bigger than myself. Not only did I get to meet my wonderful sisters, but I also came a part of the Fraternity and…

Hey seniors, Welcome back from Thanksgiving Break! Before you start studying for finals, please take a minute and join us in commemorating #SBUGivingTuesday. It’s a day when the Stony Brook community — alumni, faculty, staff, friends and students — come together to demonstrate our gratitude to the University that’s helped us in so many ways. This #SBUGivingTuesday, we want to pay this generosity forward and make our own gift representing the Class of 2017! Your gift, large or small, makes an impact on the program that you chose to support, counts toward The Campaign for Stony Brook, and positively impacts…

Hey Fellow Seniors, Stony Brook University matters to us. Over the past few years it’s where we’ve met new friends and mentors. Where we’ve studied hard and discovered ourselves and our potential. And it’s a place we can always call home. We have so much to be grateful for. Now, it’s our turn to show our gratitude to the University that changed our lives by giving our first gift to support whatever matters to us most. By coming together as a class to support the Senior Class Legacy, we will be thanking SBU for our time and experiences here, and…
