Forbes has released its 2018 list of “Best Value Colleges,” and Stony Brook University ranks No. 41 overall among 300 schools that provide students with the most bang for their buck. Stony Brook ranks at No. 18 among public colleges and universities, and received the highest ranking out of SUNY schools. Stony Brook University has been identified by Forbes as one of the top large companies at which to be an employee in America. Stony Brook is one of only 25 educational organizations to make the list and was #16 of all colleges and universities. It was the only Long Island university or college named and one of two Long Island companies selected. Stony Brook University has again been designated a “Tree Campus USA” by the National Arbor Day Foundation, in recognition of the university’s dedication to campus healthy forestry management, sustainability and environmental stewardship. SBU earned its recognition through the implementation of five core standards that promote the health of trees and student involvement to improve their forests. By BRIANNE LEDDA Stony Brook University is offering its first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Associate Course of 2018, in partnership with Long Island’s chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED is an eco-friendly certification program that takes all aspects of a building into account, rating its efficiency and sustainability. The goal is to encourage more cost-efficient and ecologically sustainable development.
