Diversity and inclusion were the themes on Sunday, June 24, for the 49th Annual New York City LGBTQ* Pride March, and Stony Brook representation was in full force for the festivities. This was the third time Stony Brook participated in the Pride March as members of the SUNY contingency. Almost 90 members of the Stony Brook community marched as part of the 400-strong SUNY cohort representing 40 SUNY schools. The Stony Brook Marching Band again led the way for the SUNY contingency. The Stony Brook Film Festival has always been about great storytelling. Jameel Warney ‘16 has made Stony Brook University history. As of Sunday, March 12, this alumnus and 40 Under Forty honoree has officially joined the Dallas Mavericks on a 10-day contract, making him Stony Brook’s first NBA player. He may be on a Texas team, but Warney’s making his way back to New York twice in these next 10 days, giving alumni and friends a chance to cheer him on. After landing a prominent corporate job straight out of college, Natalie Amrossi ‘11 did something that no one expected: she quit. For Eboné Carrington ’01, going “Far Beyond” meant taking a trip across the street. After years of overlooking Harlem Hospital from her balcony — and after earning her BS in Business Management at Stony Brook in 2001 — the Harlem native and 40 Under Forty honoree made history in 2016 when she became the Hospital’s youngest-ever CEO at the age of 37.
