NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program

NSF GRFP Awardees

Funding for 3 years of graduate study in research-based master’s and doctoral programs in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and STEM education.

A campus nomination is not required for this award, but prospective applicants should contact External Fellowships Advising about SBU's NSF GRFP Application Accelerator, an applicant mentoring program that begins the summer prior to the October application deadlines.

Eligible students (including incoming graduate students!) and alumni planning to apply in October of 2023 are strongly encouraged to participate in this program.

 

 

Eligibility:

  • Graduating seniors completing a Bachelor's in Fall 2023, Spring 2024, or Summer 2024; as well as first and second year graduate students

  • Current grad students may apply only once, during first or second year

  • Graduate applicants who have experienced a career break may be eligible (see solicitation)

  • Science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and STEM education

  • U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident

NSF GRFP Application Accelerator Summer Program:

Each summer, Stony Brook offers an Application Accelerator program that walks participants through the strategies and guidance on developing a strong application for NSF GRFP from experienced faculty and staff. This program is open to all SBU applicants eligible to apply for the October 2023 deadline, including our new incoming grad students.
