About Me

My name is Laura Martorano and I am the SBU Eats Registered Dietitian for the campus dining program at Stony Brook University. I have been practicing as a RD for over a decade within various settings such as healthcare, private practice, and sports nutrition. I received my master's degree in Clinical Nutrition and am certified within the state of New York as Dietitian-Nutritionist. My role on campus is to ensure every student can eat nourishing and delicious meals on campus!

My Philosophy

Eating well is a combination of nutrition practices that are tailored to your everyday needs, both on and off campus. Learning to “Eat Well” while you are on campus is a concept that will not only be helpful for your studies but will also become your foundation when you eventually graduate and have to pack your lunch for the first time when you start your new job!

About the Healthie Platform

Healthie is a digital platform that is HIPAA-compliant and enables wellness engagement for students on campus. Creating a profile with Healthie connects students with Campus Dietitian Laura Martorano so that she will be able to keep their preferences, food allergies and intolerances on hand! It is highly encouraged to acknowledge your allergies with the campus dietitian to help us help you when dining on campus.

Healthie allows you to:

  • Enable online scheduling with automatic reminders
  • Constant communication with the RD
  • Food Journaling
  • Metric tracking for weight and calories (if interested)

Cooking From Home

Our Cooking From Home program showcases recipes from students that remind them of home. Students work alongside the SBU Eats chefs to prepare their recipes and gather the special ingredients to make their dish. Later in the month, the recipes are featured at a dining location so that the entire campus community has the opportunity to enjoy these cuisines.
