Financial Documentation

Federal law requires that all sources of funding be disclosed. No documentation more than six months old can be accepted. Some visitors will have several sources of funds, and must produce one or more of the following as evidence:

State support: The academic department Chair’s signature and letter of offer indicating job title, salary and employment dates are sufficient evidence of a State payroll appointment.

Research Foundation support:  The academic department Chair’s signature, project director’s signature and letter of offer are sufficient proof of a Research Foundation payroll appointment.

(US or foreign) Government support:  Evidence of support should be presented in English, on agency letterhead, and detail the purpose of the support, amount of support ($USD), and specify the period during which the support will be available.  Must be signed by an appropriate government officer.

Agency or business support:  Evidence of support should be presented in English, on agency letterhead, and detail the purpose of the support, amount of support ($USD), and specify the period during which the support will be available. It should include an original signature from an appropriate officer.  If a private company will provide support, the company must provide a bank statement that documents adequate company assets to provide promised support.

Personal funds:  A bank statement in the prospective visitor’s own name documenting current balance ($USD) and transactions for the previous six months; alternatively, a letter from the bank manager indicating current account balance ($USD) and average six-month account balance.

Support from other private individuals: An “Affidavit of Support” form (click here to download) must be completed by any private individual willing to offer support to the prospective Exchange Visitor.  The Affidavit of Support must be accompanied by a bank statement in the owner's name documenting the current balance ($USD), as proof that the funds promised are available; alternatively, a letter from the bank manager indicating current account balance ($USD) is acceptable.
