Deborah Mayo, a professional actor who received her M.F.A from the Yale School of Drama, came to Stony Brook as a Guest Artist in the Summer Playhouse over three decades ago. Shortly thereafter she was invited to teach in the Theatre Arts Department; she is now an Associate Professor as well as the department's Undergraduate Director. Over the years she has taught: Acting (all levels) , Voice for the Actor, Improvisation, Auditioning for Careers, Public Speaking, and several Special Topics classes: Performance Workshop (an educational outreach program), Introduction to the Meisner Technique (Deb is a certified Meisner instructor), Acting Chekhov, and Performing Verse Drama. As a stage director at USB, Deb has explored the works of Chaucer, Moliere, Chekhov Shaw, Synge, Williams, Overmeyer, G.F. Walker, Henley, Eno and Rhuel . Her own performing work has taken her to Broadway (Dinner at Eight at Lincoln Center) Off Broadway (Manhattan Theatre Club and Playwrights Horizons) and to numerous regional theatre companies.. Her most recent performances have been on Long Island with Asylum Theatre Company, of which she is a founding member.Deb is a professional voice over artist and a member of Actor's Equity.
