    Student Feedback

    • “Be open to new things when studying abroad. It's a very enlightening and self-discovery type of experience when you're not closed off to the world around you. When you learn to accept that you're different and out of place in the country, you can learn to appreciate both your culture and the other culture and the way of living. Study abroad is an experience that's worth everything that comes along with it.”- Kelly Smith, Winter in Rome
    • “Take the opportunity to study abroad because it makes you more confident in yourself and you come back more mature.”- Marisa Lockwood, Winter in Rome
    • "Would love to encourage all students to participate in one of these programs. The experience is invaluable and life changing. A great way to meet new people, learn about yourself and grow both academically and culturally." - Participant, Winter in Rome

    Course Information

Participants will register for a total of 4 credits.

HON 110: The Unsung Treasures of Italy Students will be required to take personal or group “selfies” at several sites that, while off the beaten path, are significant to Italy’s History. In addition to these photos, students must write short paragraphs explaining the importance of each location they visit. A list of sights will be provided to students during the program. (1 credit)

HON 201: Time and the Experience of Art Gertrude Stein, in her lecture on “Composition as Explanation,” writes, “It is understood by this that everything is the same except composition and time, composition and the time of the composition and the time in the composition.” This course will explore the significance of Stein’s statement to understand how we experience art and the world around us using the sights of Florence and other cities. Readings will include theories of time, art history, aesthetics and others as needed. Students will prepare presentations for class and maintain a journal to be submitted during the course of the semester. (3 credits)
