    About the Program

    The Universidad de lost Andes is a young and dynamic research university. It aims to be a center of academic excellence, characterized by an openness to the cultural and moral challenges of society and a desire to offer innovative solutions. Located in Santioago de Chile at the foot of the Cordillera de los Andes, the university offers large green areas. The campus is designed to promote a serene natural study environment favoring intellectual creativity. The university offers programs of study in the areas of Health, Business and Administration, Engineering, and the Humanities.

    Students should plan to arrive and have accommodations for January 1st in order to participate in the start of the program on January 2nd.

    Living Arrangements Housing independently arranged by students.  The university does not offer on-campus accommodations. Students have the option to participate in a home stay program. Other housing options available upon request to UANDES.
    Additional Information A Partner University program is a study abroad experience where students are nominated/accepted by Stony Brook University, and enroll at a partner institution. In most cases SBU faculty or staff are NOT traveling with participants.
    Program Housing Statement: Stony Brook University is required to comply with the housing policies of the host country, partner institution and/or hotel/hostel. These policies may include requirements such as sex-based housing placement.

    Application Deadline Extended to November 1 Applicants are accepted on a rolling basis, and are encouraged to apply as early as possible.
  • Academic Information

    Course Information

    Students will register for a total of 3 credits. All participants following the Stony Brook Curriculum (SBC) will fulfill GLO and EXP+ in addition to the requirement(s) fulfilled by their coursework. 

    Students will choose between the two academic programs below. 

    1) Go Chile and APEC Program: Learn about Chile's economy and its role in the Latin American and Asia-Pacific Region following the 2019 APEC summit in Santiago. Lectures will cover the economy and politics of members countries of APEC as well as Chilean culture.  Participants will understand Chile's reality while immersing themselves in the local culture.  The program includes many interesting site visits and cultural excursions. Some examples include a guided tour of La Moneda Presidential Palace, the Central and La Vega Markets, and visits to mining and innovation and tech companies. 

    2) Go COP 25 Program: Learn about climate change, renewable energies, future development challenges and the COP25 Summit to be hosted in Chile this coming December 2019. Students will learn about business opportunities related to renewable energies and sustainable innovative projects. The program includes trekking and other outdoor activities. It also offers an opportunity to learn Spanish and discover the local culture while enjoying summer at the UANDES Campus.



    Note: The  Go Spanish Program as part of the Winter 2020 term does not fit Stony Brook's academic calendar.
