    About the Program

    The 2019 Advanced Critical Language Institute for Russian Immersion (ACLI) is specifically designed to help students of who have completed one year of Russian language to improve their fluency in all aspects of their speaking, writing and grammar. Intermediate and advanced ACLI students are provided unique opportunities to speak Russian during the program. All participants study for four to five hours daily in small groups with native speaking specialists from The Herzen State Pedagogical University.

    Course of Study

    Intermediate and Advanced level Russian Language.

    Students will enroll in either RUS 211, 212, 311, 312, 411, or 412. Additionally students will enroll in 3-6 credits of EUR 447, RUS 447 or SLV 578 (grad)

    4 weeks: 3-6 credits

    6 week: 6-9 credits

    All participants following the Stony Brook Curriculum (SBC) can request GLO and EXP+ in addition to requirement(s) fulfilled by their coursework.

    Language Proficiency All students in good academic standing who have one year of Russian Language complete at the time of the program start may apply.
    Program Term Summer
    Living Arrangements ACLI students will live in residence halls near the university.

    Russian-family home stay may be available upon request.

    Program Housing Statement: Stony Brook University is required to comply with the housing policies of the host country, partner institution and/or hotel/hostel. These policies may include requirements such as sex-based housing placement.

    Other Requirements Applicants MUST include an image of a current passport that has two blank adjacent visa pages and that is valid through at least Jan 2021

    Candidates may be interviewed to determine their qualifications for participating and representing Stony Brook University abroad.

    Program Fee 4 week option: $2,250 (includes residence hall housing, meal allowance, metro pass, group excursions, international health insurance)

    6 week option: $2,950 (includes residence hall housing, meal allowance, metro pass, group excursions, international health insurance)

    $200 (non-refundable)

    Other Fees Estimated Visa Fee: $250 (additional fees may apply)
    Travel Costs Estimated Airfare: $1,000 - $1,200. All student participants will travel together to the study abroad site. Students should wait for flight details prior to making travel arrangements.
    Costs are estimates for planning purposes of the student and are subject to change at any point.
    Graduate students will be charged tuition at the current graduate student tuition rate.
