    About the Program

    The Advanced Critical Language Institute for Russian Immersion (ACLI) is specifically designed to help students who have completed at least one year of Russian language to improve their fluency in all aspects of their speaking, writing and grammar. ACLI students are provided unique opportunities for linguistic and cultural immersion. 

    Choice of a 4-week (3-6 credits) or 6-week (6-9 credits) program.

    Living Arrangements ACLI students will live in city center residence halls within walking distance to the university.

    Russian-family home stay may be available upon request at an additional fee (Home stay may require commute).
    Additional Information Faculty-Led study abroad programs may require group travel. Please reach out to your IAP Coordinator prior to making any travel arrangements.
    Program Housing Statement: Stony Brook University is required to comply with the housing policies of the host country, partner institution and/or hotel/hostel. These policies may include requirements such as sex-based housing placement.

    Other Requirements Applicants MUST include an image of a current passport that has two blank adjacent visa pages and that is valid through at least Jan 2022
    Application Deadline March 1 Applicants are accepted on a rolling basis, and are encouraged to apply as early as possible.
    Candidates may be interviewed to determine their qualifications for participating and representing Stony Brook University abroad.

    Course Information

    Intermediate and Advanced level Russian Language.

    Students will enroll in either RUS 211, 212, 311, 312, 411, or 412. Additionally students will enroll in 3-6 credits of EUR 447, RUS 447 or SLV 578 (grad)

    4 weeks: 3-6 credits

    6 week: 6-9 credits


    Academic Policies

    • Credits earned on this program will calculate toward a student's GPA at Stony Brook University. Non-SBU students are advised to check their home university policy on grade and credit transfer.
    • Students following the Stony Brook Curriculum (SBC) may request for GLO and EXP+ in addition to requirements fulfilled by their coursework.
