    About the Program

    This program is designed for independent students with a strong background in Spanish who wish to bolster their Spanish ability. Leon offers special courses for international students, focusing on culture, grammar, and literature. Students who are fluent may choose to enroll directly in host university courses. Fields of study include anthropology, archeology, business, earth sciences, ecology, economics, history, humanities, language study, linguistics, literature, natural and physical sciences, philosophy, religion, and social sciences. The University of Leon is located in Leon, Spain and is one of the more prominent institutions of Europe. Leon is located in a unique region of Spain where the dialect (Leonese) is so different than Spanish, it is now considered an official language of the region.

    Additional Information A Partner University program is a study abroad experience where students are nominated/accepted by Stony Brook University, and enroll at a partner institution. In most cases SBU faculty or staff are NOT traveling with participants.

    Program Housing Statement: Stony Brook University is required to comply with the housing policies of the host country, partner institution and/or hotel/hostel. These policies may include requirements such as sex-based housing placement.

    Additional Information

    Grades earned in a Partner University program   WILL NOT  calculate towards the cumulative GPA for SBU students.

    Non-SBU students must contact their home university regarding their grade and credit transfer policy.

    Candidates may be interviewed to determine their qualifications for participating and representing Stony Brook University abroad.
  • Program Cost

    Program Cost

    Application Fee $60
    Tuition Rate $ 3,435 per semester for NY residents

    $12,270 per semester for non-residents
    Program Fee $920 per semester

    *This includes the $160 student visa application fee. The IAP Office will submit the visa application on students' behalf.
    Administrative Fee $200 (non-refundable)
    International Health Insurance $55 per month approximately. Note: The host university may also require a domestic health plan, and will send details regarding costs to students directly.
    Other Fees $3,600-$4,360 (approximately; Students pay room, board, books, transportation and other university fees directly to overseas university)
    Travel Costs $1,400 (approximately; Students are responsible for their travel arrangements including airfare, visa costs)
    Costs are estimates for planning purposes of the student and are subject to change at any point.
