Chapter 31 - Vocational Rehabilitation Employment

Am I eligible?

To receive an evaluation for Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment services, a veteran must:

  • Have received, or will receive, a discharge that is other than dishonorable.
  • Have a service-connected disability rating of at least 10%.
  • Submit a completed application for Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment services.

What are the benefits?

Vocational Rehabilitation is intended to help the service-disabled veteran select, prepare for, and secure employment that is compatible with his or her interests, abilities, physical capabilities and goals. Entitlement may be provided for up to 48 months. An eligible veteran generally has 12 years from the date of discharge or release from active duty in which to use these benefits. Their application must be made at the Office of Veteran Affairs in New York City.
