COVID Testing Requirements for Partially Vaccinated Commuter Students
The FDA issued approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine on August 23. As communicated then, per New York State policy, all SUNY students enrolled in at least one in-person class OR use an in-person campus service or facility are required to submit proof of their COVID vaccination to continue their enrollment. Stony Brook's deadline is September 24.
All commuter students who are partially vaccinated or received a vaccine within the last two weeks are required to obtain a COVID test once per week until they are considered fully vaccinated (two weeks after their final dose). After being fully vaccinated, please follow the monthly surveillance testing plan noted under Vaccinated Commuter Students.

We will be offering this testing on campus, but you may choose to test in an off-campus provider. Please continue reading for details.
- Although we strongly encourage you to utilize the testing we are offering on campus, you may choose to use an external provider, but you must meet the testing requirements in order to continue in classes.
- Any costs associated with COVID testing at an off-campus location are your responsibility.
- If you utilize an off-campus provider, you must upload your results to the Wolfie Health Portal by the deadline indicated in your testing schedule. At-home COVID tests will not be accepted since the identity of the individual that took the test cannot be verified.
- You will use your insurance when testing on campus. If there are any costs associated with this testing that are not covered by your insurance, they will be covered by the University.

*For the week of November 22, schedule one test either Monday, November 22 or Tuesday, November 23. No testing will be offered November 24-27 due to the Thanksgiving Holiday.
NOTE: If you have tested positive for COVID within the last 90 days, do not get tested. Instead, submit a note from your medical provider that indicates the date of your positive test result to the Wolfie Health Portal.
If you are away from campus for any 7-day testing period noted above, you are still required to obtain a PCR or rapid antigen test at an off-campus provider and submit the test result to the Wolfie Health Portal to maintain compliance. You will be financially responsible for that test.
If you commute to West or East campus, your testing location is:
Recreation Center 's MAC Courts, Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm. This location offers a more comfortable mid-nasal PCR testing.
HSC Galleria in East Campus (limited to HSC commuter students) , Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4pm.Starting November 29, testing will only be conducted on Mondays and Tuesdays from 8:30am-4:00pm. This location offers a more comfortable mid-nasal PCR testing.
If you commute to Stony Brook Southampton, your testing location is the Special Events Room at the Student Center Cafeteria. No appointment is needed. This location offers saliva PCR testing. Testing is available Mondays and Thursdays from 8:30 am to 2 pm. ( Thursday testing will begin on 8/26 and Monday testing will begin on 8/30).
Alternatively, you can obtain your test at an off-campus location such as CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, City MD, ProHealth, Quest Diagnostics, private doctor’s office, or other provider. At-home COVID tests will not be accepted since the identity of the individual that took the test cannot be verified.
NOTE: If you use an off campus provider for your test, upload your weekly test result to
Wolfie Health Portal by 11:59 pm each Sunday. Once you upload your test result, complete this
form to confirm your submission.
Step 1: Register
If you plan to obtain your test at the Recreation Center's MAC Courts: You must register using the link below and provide your insurance information. When registering, make sure you enter your student ID correctly for your test to be accurately recorded. Enter the information that matches your legal name that is on the back of your Stony Brook University ID card.
If you plan to obtain your test at the HSC Galleria, click on the link below to register and then select your appointment date and time.
If you plan to obtain your test at Stony Brook Southampton, click on the link below to register. No appointment is needed for this testing location, so if you are testing in this location, skip to Step 3.
Step 2: Make Your Appointment
After submitting your information, you will receive a confirmation email. Click on the link provided in the email to make your appointment. Walk-ins will not be permitted.
When scheduling your appointment, set up an account through the link provided in Step 1, so that you can access your test results through the patient portal. Results are typically available within 5-7 days after your sample is sent to the lab.
Bring your Stony Brook ID card and your insurance card with you to your appointment.
Because we’d like to keep infection rates low so that we can continue in-person classes and social activities. Students who do not participate in required testing will be referred to the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards. Please note these COVID 19 surveillance testing protocols are subject to change based on community and campus infection rates as well as guidance from regulatory agencies. What happens if I test positive for COVID?
If you test positive, you will receive a phone call from Student Health Services to discuss next steps and engage in contact tracing . If you tested off campus and received a positive result, you must contact Student Health Services right away at (631) 632-6176. DO NOT come to campus or attend in-person classes or events.
