UNDERGRADUATE OPPORTUNITIES
The Event Coordinator position is designed to offer students an opportunity to learn how to plan, execute, and assess programs with the assistance of other student coordinators. Event Coordinators will report to the Assistant Director for Student Engagement and Activities and aim to specifically enhance the quality of programming and campus life.
Position tasks include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in the development, planning, and execution of weekly events for the Department of Student Engagement & Activities
- Provide staffing support at 1-2 weekly in-person evening events (typically on Fridays and Saturdays) including set-up, management, and breakdown of events as necessary
- Serve as a lead event coordinator for multiple events per semester which includes creating a marketing plan to be shared with the Branding and Marketing team
- Be a present and active member at weekly staff meetings by providing ideas, post-event evaluations and contributing to success of overall programming
- Attend and participate at trainings and supervision meetings
- Represent Student Engagement & Activities at campus events as needed
- Other duties as assigned
- In addition to the event coordinator responsibilities, staff members may take on a
functional assignments including but not limited to
- Inventory Management
- Assessment
- Internal Operations
- Volunteer Recruitment
- Tasks will be assigned closer to the beginning of the semester during training
Remuneration
This is an hourly paid student assistant position. The successful candidate will be expected to work approximately 8-10 hours per week at the tentative rate of $15/hour. Hours and pay rate subject to change based on yearly budget and scheduling approvals. This position can also be done through internship credit and Federal Work Study.

Skills and Qualifications
Required:
- Must be enrolled as a matriculated undergraduate at Stony Brook University.
- Applicants must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.25.
- Applicants must maintain appropriate conduct standing. A sanction of University Probation or higher, or a sanction of restriction from holding leadership positions will disqualify candidates.
- Availability of approximately 10 hrs/week - weekend availability is a must.
- Available to staff in person events weekly.
- Minimum of a one year commitment.
- Able to establish and maintain effective peer and supervisory relationships.
- Customer service experience.
- Preferred start date of 6/1/23. Must be available for a start date of no later than 7/1/23.

Preferred:
- Prior experience with planning and executing large scale events.

- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, to meet deadlines.
- Possess strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management.
- Experience creating fliers in Canva.

GRADUATE STUDENT COORDINATOR FOR STUDENT ENGAGEMENT & ACTIVITIES
The Graduate Student Coordinator for Student Engagement & Activities is a position within the Department of Student Engagement and Activities broadly designed to offer graduate students an opportunity to assist all functions of the department including: administration, advising, training, leadership development, risk and event management for our 350+ student clubs/organizations, leaders, and advisors; and major programming and event planning.
Position tasks include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in the daily office operations of the Department of Student Engagement and Activities
- Review 25Live, and SB Engaged event request forms. Work with an assigned caseload of recognized student organizations to provide support and advisement to ensure success, adherence to departmental, University, and SUNY policies, and limit risk
- Attend supervisory, and departmental meetings and training
- Assist in the design and facilitation of resources, workshops, and training for student leaders and advisors
- Assist with planning and/or provide on-site support at student, departmental events, and campus traditions as needed, which sometimes take place in the evening and/or on weekends
- Assist with marketing, and assessment of events and departmental services
- Assist with annual re-registration for student organizations
- Assist with the new club/organization recognition process
- Assist with maintenance and utility of university's online student engagement platform known locally as "SB Engaged"
- Serve on committees and represent the department on panels and presentations as needed
- Assist in the recruitment, selection, onboarding, training, supervision, and recognition of undergraduate student staff and interns across the department.
- Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required
- Other duties as assigned
Remuneration
This is an hourly paid position for graduate students only. The successful candidate will be expected to work approximately 20 to 25 hours per week at the rate of $17 per hour, for 50 weeks throughout the year.
