Moving To Campus
Move-In
To ensure appropriate physical distancing in the COVID-19 environment, students living on campus will be assigned a specific arrival date and time to move into their Fall 2020 housing assignment. The check in schedule is being developed to restrict roommates, suite mates, apartment mates from arriving at the same time.
Based on the need for students to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test prior to checking into their assigned space, check in will occur only between the hours of 9:00 am and 5:00 pm and only during the time period that you are assigned to check in. After hours arrivals cannot be accomodated.
The general check in schedule is as follows (you'll receive your specific arrival date and time slot on or about August 10, 2020):
- New Undergraduates: August 19 - 20, 2020, only
- Returning Undergraduates, Graduate Students and Family Housing: August 21 - 23, 2020, only.
To ensure appropriate physical distancing for all members of the community, your scheduled arrival time is firm. Students unable to arrive at their scheduled check in time will need to delay arrival until the week of August 24th. If you need to request a delayed arrival, please contact your Area Office at: https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/studentaffairs/res/about/contact_us#QuadContactInformation
Important: If you are coming from outside the United States or from one of the states on the NY State Travel Advisory List ( NYS Travel Advisory States), you must complete a 14 day mandatory quarantine in NY State or in a state not on the Travel Advisory list before you will be permitted to move into your assigned space on campus. Documentation will be required before being permitted to sign into your assigned space on campus.
Move-In Process
Upon arrival on campus you will be directed to a pre-check in COVID-19 Check point. At that location you will be required to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test (not an antibody test) no earlier than 14 days prior to check in. Students unable to provide documentation of a negative COVID-19 test will not be permitted to check in and will be advised to schedule an arrival time after August 24, 2020 once a negative test result is available and documentation can be provided.
Upon verification of a negative COVID-19 test, you will be directed to your assigned residence hall or apartment area to complete the housing check in process. You must bring your check in pass (written or electronic version) which will be sent to you on or about August 10, 2020 with you.
Once you check in you'll be able to move your personal items into your assigned room. To ensure appropriate physical distancing, you will be limited to no more than two other individuals, in addition to yourself, in the residence hall while you move in. As such, the University strongly recommends not traveling to campus with multiple family members as they will not be permitted to enter the building.
