Employment Opportunities

You may need a job to earn money for college or to gain experience in a field of interest.  Stony Brook has a variety of on-campus and off-campus job and internship opportunities.

First Step: Check Out Handshake, Stony Brook’s centralized job posting system.

Handshake: Undergraduate and graduate students should use Handshake to search for on-campus and off-campus jobs and internships. Handshake lists on-campus employment opportunities, including Federal Work Study, Student Assistant, Graduate Assistant and others. 

To use Handshake log in through the Career Center website:  www.stonybrook.edu/career with your NetID and password. If you have questions about Handshake, visit the Career Center, located on the ground floor of the Melville Library, at the foot of the Zebra Path walkway between the Library and Frey Hall.

The Career Center is the place to go to find out all you need to know about job opportunities on and off campus. They offer:

  • Resources and advice for the job/internship search
  • Drop-in advising
  • Career counseling for major and career decisions
  • Special events each semester (Careers in Art, Careers in Engineering, etc.)
  • Corporate interviewing (OCR) and resume referrals
  • Job and Internship Fairs
  • Internships: paid, credit, and volunteer
  • Center for Service Learning and Community Service
  • Graduate School application strategies
  • Networking with alumni
