Family Weekend will take place on Friday, September 30 through Sunday, October 2.
It is going to be a fun-filled weekend, with plenty of opportunities to experience
campus life with your student, including rooting for the Seawolves in a home football
game, family barbeque, and coffee with President McInnis!
Family Weekend at Stony Brook University is a prideful tradition; our team looks forward to the weekend lineup every school year. Our programming is open to all undergraduate AND graduate students! Below is a comprehensive schedule of events for this year's Family Weekend. We are looking forward to welcoming your family and loved ones to campus this Family Weekend.
Friday, September 30
1:30 PM: Jummah Prayers hosted by the Islamic Society in the Stony Brook Union Ballroom.
6:00 PM: Hillel Family Weekend Shabbat hosted by Stony Brook Hillel in Interfaith Chapel, Student Union L10.
7:00PM-8:30 PM: Check In
Check in at the Student Activities Center Why Lobby to retrieve your Family Weekend tickets and giveaways.
8:00-10:00 PM: Murder Mystery Show (Frame Your Family!)
Join Student Engagement & Activities for a Murder Mystery Show: Frame Your Family! Advanced registration is not required. Check SBEngaged for additional details. Student Activities Center, Ballroom A.
Saturday, October 1
*9:00-10:30 AM: Coffee with President McInnis - Seawolves Kitchen, East Side Dining
Get to know President Maurie McInnis over coffee and connect with other families and students. Limited seating available, reservations required in advance.
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Study Abroad Workshop - Student Union
Come and learn about Study Abroad opportunities here at Stony Brook.
11:00 AM - 1:30 PM: Campus Tours - Student Union
Join us for a tour of some of our newly renovated, updated spots on campus, led by one of our current Seawolves. Tours will leave from the Stony Brook Student Union approximately every 15-30 minutes beginning at 11am and the final tour will leave at 1:30pm.
11:00 AM - 3:00 PM: Resource Fair -Student Union
Come and join us to learn more about the resources and opportunities available here at Stony Brook! During this time we will have representatives from various campus offices for you to connect with, some light refreshments, and performances by our student groups.
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM: Family Services Workshop- Student Union
Come and join us for a conversation about how to best support your student as they navigate their college experience.
1:00 PM: Kiddush
Hosted by Stony Brook Hillel in the Student Union L11.
*2:00 PM - 3:15PM: Family Barbeque
Enjoy a BBQ lunch before the football game at the LaValle Stadium parking lot. The BBQ will start at 2pm, and the game starts at 3:30pm. Students with any student meal plans can use a meal swipe at the BBQ. Students without meal plans will need to purchase in advance a BBQ ticket. Please note that tickets must be purchased in advance for the Family Weekend BBQ. There will be food trucks and other dining options available for pay on the day of separate from Family Weekend. (Sold Out however food trucks and other dining options are still available)
2:30 PM: Islamic Society: Meet and Greet
Come down to the Interfaith Chapel in the Student Union room L10 to discuss Building Bridges of Faith at Stony Brook.
*3:30 PM: Football Game: Stony Brook vs. William & Mary
Attend our home football game at Lavalle Stadium! Step into SBU spirit while cheering on the home team! Students do attend for free and parents and loved ones can buy tickets in advance at the link below!
8:00 PM: Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra - Staller Center
The Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra is composed of outstanding musicians from all over the world pursuing advanced studies in the graduate school of the Department of Music with renowned performance faculty. Tickets for this event must be purchased separately from Family Weekend registration. To purchase tickets, visit the Staller Center website. 6:30 PM: Dinner and a Show
We will be having a lavish catered dinner accompanied by drinks, dessert, and a live performance from comedian/singer Brian O'Sullivan. Bring your friends! Bring your family and enjoy a classy evening catered just for you! Check SBEngaged for additional details.
9:00 PM: DJ and Dance Party at the SAC PLaza
Sunday, October 2
10:00 AM to 3:00 PM: All About Protestant Spiritual Life at SBU
Meet Reverend Brenda and Protestant Campus Ministry Friends in the Interfaith Chapel at the Stony Brook Union.
5:00 PM: Sunday Worship Service
Sunday Worship Service will be hosted by the Catholic Campus Ministry in the Stony Brook Union Ballroom.
