Off-Campus Roommate Agreement 

Communicating with your Landlord 

  • When interacting with your landlord, try texting, calling or video chatting first to maintain distance.
  • If you must communicate in person, remain 6 feet apart and wear appropriate  face coverings.
  • Check with your landlord to make sure your apartment or house has been cleaned and sanitized before your arrival
  • Openly communicate with your landlord, and have a plan in place in the event you or a roommate  are diagnosed with COVID-19

Roommate Safety 

  • Have a clear understanding of guest expectations from all roommates that comply with CDC guidelines 
  • Have sanitation supplies, hand sanitizer, cleaning supplies, etc. handy at all times
  • Consider creating a cleaning schedule to ensure your space is sanitized 
  • Wear masks and social distance when interacting with people with whom you do not reside
  • If a roommate is diagnosed with COVID-19 have a mutually agreed upon plan of action that complies with CDC guidelines 
  • Hold each other accountable for behavior outside of the home and comply with New York State Safety Guidelines at all times 
  • Openly communicate about all travel plans particularly as it relates to Thanksgiving Break
  • Consider using totes in bathrooms so no toiletries directly touch bathroom countertop

Public Transportation Safety 

  • While riding, wear face coverings at all times
  • Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds before and after riding (or use hand sanitizer that has at least 60% alcohol)
  • If possible, keep 6 feet (2 meters) from other passengers and drivers
  • Have adequate supplies (disinfecting wipes or hand sanitizer) with you when you leave the house in the event you can’t wash your hands after departing your ride
  • Do your best to avoid touching surfaces (kiosk desks, touch screens, fingerprint scanners, ticket machines)
  • Use touchless payment when available

Personal Vehicle Safety

  • Keep hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes in your vehicle
  • Disinfect high touch surfaces in your car frequently (steering wheel, gear shift, radio knobs and buttons)
  • Consider full service gas stations to avoid touching the gas pump

General Safety

  • Wash hands for 20 seconds frequently with soap and water, especially before eating
  • Avoid touching your face with unwashed hands
  • Wear face coverings in public
  • Consider extra precaution for more sensitive populations (older adults, those with underlying conditions
