Alumni Board

Meg Spicer ('12)  Spicer

Meg found herself as part of the Stony Brook University Marching Band after a Binghamton University recruiter told her at a college fair that Stony Brook just started a new marching band and maybe they would be more in line with what she was looking for in a college experience. She was appointed as the first female drum major at the end of her freshman year and she remained a drum major for the rest of her college career. After graduating and leaving the band and her beloved tenor saxophones, she has worked as a reporter at papers in Connecticut and Virginia and is now a reporter for the Connecticut Law Tribune. She was formerly the social chair of the alumni board, a position she stepped into right after graduation in 2012.

Vice President:
Mike Skovan ('14)  Skovan

Mike graduated from Stony Brook with a bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics and statistics and a minor in computer science. He served on the Athletic Bands' executive board as president in 2013. In addition to working on the program’s summer recruitment staff, he also led the trombones as their section leader for two years. A marching arts enthusiast, Mike was a two-time member of The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps in 2012 and 2014, and also performed with the U.S. Army All-American Marching Band in 2010. He currently resides in Boston where he works as an athletic communications director at Northeastern University.

She deeply appreciates everything the band had to offer her during her years as a student, and is looking forward to giving back to the greatest group on campus! Lauren loves running, biking, reading, and her dog Rocky. She currently works as a research scientist at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Massachusetts.
