Nominations for the Student Employee & Intern of the Year Awards are now open!
All nominees and nominators will be invited to join our virtual ceremony on
April 13th, 2022 at 1 PM, so please save the date!
In an effort to recognize a greater variety of students, various local awards will
be included in this year's ceremony. Please view the awards below and note that
all nominations are due on Sunday, February 27th, 2022.

Supervisors May Nominate:

Each spring, the National Student Employment Administration (NSEA) coordinates a Student Employee of the Year selection process in conjunction with NSEA’s regional affiliates. The purpose of the selection process is to recognize the outstanding contributions and achievements of students who work while attending college. The National Student Employment Association has declared that the second complete week in April each year be set aside to recognize the value of student employees and student employment professionals.
The process begins at the institution level. Supervisors have the ability to nominate outstanding student employees to be considered as their Student Employee of the Year. Once selected, any institution who is a current member of one of NSEA may nominate their Student Employee of the Year for national consideration. Any current, paid undergraduate student employee is eligible for this award.
Supervisors will nominate students by submitting a letter (2 page maximum) with the following requirements:

- Briefly describe why you are submitting this student for recognition.
- Briefly outline your student employee’s accomplishments over this past year and/or how they have contributed to the workplace.
- How does this student exhibit NACE competencies in their position? Please provide specific examples.

Supervisors have the ability to nominate outstanding graduate student employees to be considered as Graduate Student Employee of the Year. The Graduate Student Employee of the Year will be recognized at a local level only this year Student workers may be classified as work study, institutional hourly wage, and graduate assistants in order to be nominated.
Supervisors will nominate students by submitting a letter (2 page maximum) with the following requirements:

- Briefly describe why you are submitting this student for recognition.
- Briefly outline your student employee’s accomplishments over this past year and/or how they have contributed to the workplace.
- How does this student exhibit NACE competencies in their position? Please provide specific examples.

The Intern of the Year is an award to recognize the outstanding contributions and achievements of students who complete an internship for an on campus department (including Research Foundation and SB Medicine) during the 2020-2021 Academic Year. An internship is for credit or grad non-credit, paid or unpaid, in which the student participates in work related to their major or outside of their major. It is appropriately supervised on-site and by a faculty sponsor, with specific learning objectives and an opportunity for reflection and evaluation.
Supervisors will nominate students by submitting a letter (2 page maximum) with the following requirements:

- Briefly describe why you are submitting this student for recognition.
- Briefly outline your student employee’s accomplishments over this past year and/or how they have contributed to the workplace.
- How does this student exhibit NACE competencies in their position? Please provide specific examples.

Supervisors may nominate student employees or interns for the Outstanding New Employee Award whom they feel warrant particular recognition for their fast-learning and their potential in the workplace.
Nominations will be judged on the abilities of the student employee or intern, specifically their ability to: quickly make a positive impact in the workplace, adapt to new policies and systems, show a strong desire to learn, make strong and positive connections within their new workspace.
By including information and examples about the following areas, you will likely be touching upon the selection criteria:
• The nominee’s efforts to quickly make a positive impact in the workplace.
• The nominee’s actions that show their desire to learn, grow, and adapt to new policies and systems.
• The nominee’s ability to create strong and positive connections within their new workspace. -
Supervisors may nominate student employees or interns for the Excellence in Creativity & Innovation Award whom they feel warrant particular recognition for their ability to make a significant new change or impact in the workplace.
Nominations will be judged on the abilities of the student employee or intern, specifically their ability to: take the initiative on a new project, make significant and long lasting change in the department, think creatively and strategically, and persuade others to see their point of view. By including information and examples about the following areas, you will likely be touching upon the selection criteria:
• The nominee’s efforts to take initiative on a new project.
• The nominee’s actions that contribute to lasting and positive change in the department
• The nominee’s ability to think creatively and strategically
• The actions the nominee has taken to persuade and lead others in their way of thinking -
Supervisors may nominate student employees or interns who have worked in an in person or hybrid work environment for the Excellence in Teamwork Award whom they feel warrant particular recognition for their ability to maintain and create a positive team culture.
Nominations will be judged on the abilities of the student employee or intern, specifically their ability to: create personal connections on a team, spread joy and positivity throughout the workspace, and contribute to a culture of camaraderie.
By including information and examples about the following areas, you will likely be touching upon the selection criteria:
• The nominee’s efforts to create personal connections on a team
• The nominee’s actions spread joy and positivity throughout the workspace.
• The nominee’s ability to contribute to a culture of camaraderie by implementing new ideas, activities, and events. -
Supervisors may nominate student employees or interns who have displayed exemplary professionalism for the Outstanding Professionalism Award.
Nominations will be judged on the abilities of the student employee or intern, specifically their ability to: communicate professionally in the workplace, exhibit excellent time management, display initiative and follow-through on tasks, demonstrate personal accountability.
By including information and examples about the following areas, you will likely be touching upon the selection criteria:
• The nominee’s professional communication skills.
• The nominee’s ability to manage their time and workload.
• The nominee’s ability to display initiative and follow through on tasks.
• The nominee's willingness to demonstrate personal accountability.
Students May Nominate:

The Supervisor of the Year Award was established to recognize the integral part that the supervisor plays in the education of a student employee. Supervisors act as mentors and provide education to their students that they cannot gain through the classroom. Supervisor of the Year will be recognized at the local level only this year.
Students may nominate supervisors whom they feel warrant particular recognition for their performance on the job. In your letter of nomination, please describe the accomplishments of the nominee which you feel qualify them to be considered for Supervisor of the Year recognition. Your letter of nomination must be limited to two pages. Nominations will be judged on the abilities of the supervisor, specifically: integrating students as members of the
staff, guidance and mentoring, initiative, and alignment with mission of college/department.By including information and examples about the following areas, you will likely be touching upon the selection criteria:
• The nominee’s efforts to provide student employee(s) an opportunity to demonstrate
responsibility and to feel like part of the staff.
• The nominee’s actions that encourage the use of initiative, academic background and/or
skill sets of the student employee(s) they supervise.
• The manner in which the nominee provides a quality/challenging work environment.
• How the nominee establishes a work environment which encourages access, direction,
and/or a mentoring role.
• The opportunities provided for the student to make meaningful contributions to the
mission of the department or institution.In order to be eligible for consideration, the nominee must have supervised the work of at least one student employee for a minimum of six months part-time (or three months full-time), during the selection period, and must be employed by the institution or have a formal student employment relationship with
the school.
