Student FAQs: Mental Health & Wellness Support Last updated on 7/2/21
You can schedule an appointment by contacting CAPS at (631) 632-6720, or you can self-schedule
an Initial Consult Appointment through the
Wolfie Health Portal (formerly named Medicat Portal) at:
https://stonybrook.medicatconnect.com/. This link can also be found on the top banner of our webpage under “Schedule Initial Consultation.” Ongoing scheduled appointments will be made
between the student and their assigned counselor.
CAPS is offering face-to-face appointments, in addition to continuing to offer telehealth
appointments (on phone or Zoom). During the Initial Consult Appointment, the counselor
will ask your preference for in-person, phone or Zoom appointments.
If you are being served through telemedicine, you are not required to do an additional
screening other than the daily CampusClear student screener. If you are having an
in-person visit at CAPS, you will need to be screened for COVID symptoms at the Student
Health Center, also located at 1 Stadium Road. Screening may include an interview
with a nurse about COVID symptoms, recent illness or exposure, and a temperature check.
Therefore, if you have a face-to-face appointment at CAPS, you will need to arrive
at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time and follow the Student
Health Services protocols. You will also be required to follow physical distancing
guidelines and must wear a facial mask or covering at all times.
CAPS is not currently offering walk-in hours, but has same-day appointments available
Monday through Friday 9 am to 4 pm. You can schedule a same-day appointment by contacting
CAPS at (631) 632-6720. You can also call (631) 632-6720 to speak to a counselor 24/7
through CAPS After Hours.
If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please call CAPS at (631) 632-6720
to speak with a counselor.
When CAPS is closed, call CAPS After Hours at (631) 632-6720 or 24/7 at (855) 509-5742
to speak with a counselor.
If there is a concern for imminent safety, please call University Police at (631)
If you do not have a private space for your tele-session or to speak with a counselor,
please call CAPS at (631) 632-6720 and we will work with you to make arrangements
for you to have a private space.
You can speak with a mental health professional 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365
days a year with
CAPS After Hours. CAPS is open 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday. When CAPS is closed, call CAPS
After Hours at (631) 632-6720 or 24/7 at (855) 509-5742 to speak with a counselor.
