Meet Your New Colleagues!

In this feature, we will be providing short profiles of some new Stony Brook University employees - who they are, what they want you to know about them, what they care about.

We will continue to update this page, so if you have someone you’d like to suggest - even yourself - to feature here, please write to us at strongertogether@stonybrook.edu to get things rolling. In the meantime, meet some of your new colleagues and watch for more to come ...

Wesam Hassanin
Executive Assistant to the Dean in the School of Nursing
Start Date: September 10, 2020

Wesam, who switched her career from medical to education, notes that her favorite thing about Stony Brook is the diversity and inclusion. “Everyone has their own way of viewing a problem or idea, shaped by their individual experiences and the worldview they carry with them. It's difficult to find that anywhere else,” she says.

Excited to meet all of her new colleagues face-to-face and dive into the social aspects of her position, Wesam wants all to know that she brings determination and dependability with a smile to the Stony Brook Campus Community.

Shaquille River
Career Coach, Career Center
Start Date: May 3, 2021

After leaving his post at University at Albany, Shaquille joined the Stony Brook team itching to make professional and energizing relationships with the student community. Even though he has yet to be full-time on campus, he says he has already felt the warm, inviting and supportive feel of the Campus Community. “It feels like I am exactly where I am supposed to be. I am really excited to meet new people in this upcoming academic year,” he says.

There’s also a bonus for Shaquille now that he’s at Stony Brook: His favorite animal is a wolf and here he is — A Stony Brook Seawolf.

Chasity Wilson
Assistant Director of Residential Education, Campus Residences
Start Date: September 24, 2020

Joining Stony Brook University from The New School in Manhattan, Chasity focuses mostly on first-year resident students in her position with the Eleanor Roosevelt Community. While she joined the Campus last year, she feels as if now is when she’s become more ingrained in the community, as people are coming back to Stony Brook and bringing their vibrant personalities with them.

“My experience has been unique and not like anything I've experienced before. While I am not so new as I wrap my first year, with campus opening up - I feel very new meeting people for the first time face to face,” she says.

Chasity says that she’s excited to bring her knowledge, good energy, cheer, and occasionally her toddler son to the Stony Brook Community.
