HEA Instructor Publishes first book
Dr. Marianna Savoca, a member of the HEA faculty, has just published her first book, "A Good Job: Campus Employment as a High-Impact Practice" (Stylus, 2018). With a foreword by Dr. George Kuh, Savoca and her co-authors sought to help student employment practitioners and student employee supervisors at diverse college campuses re-envision, re-invent, and re-configure student jobs on campus, to transform them into high-impact opportunities for learning and development. Christina Vargas

HEA 521 Instructor Wins Award from the Suffolk County Human Rights Commission 
On Wednesday, May 17 at the 2017 Human Rights Awards Dinner, Christina Vargas will be honored as the recipient of the Lawrence Timpa Memorial Award for Professional Service.  This award is given to honor an individual who, in his/her professional life, has responded to violations of human rights and/or has sought to change institutional structures that have restricted full participation by all people.  Congratulations Professor Vargas!

Obed Figueroa

Obed Figueroa '14 Published in the Poughkeepsie Journal
HEA alumnus Obed Figueroa '14 has published an article in the Poughkeepsie Journal  in which he discusses myths about slavery that still need to be dispelled.  As the Diversity and Inclusion Specialist for the American Institute of Graphic Arts, Obed was inspired to write this article after visiting the African Burial Grounds museum. He says, "The experience was so enlightening it prompted me to conduct further research to understand what Africans experienced dating back to the 17th century. My findings help to explain the origins of racism that began with established laws created on the lands that would become New York State."  Read the article »
