Rachelle Germana, PhD
Shelley Germana has worked in higher education for over 15 years, with leadership
roles in both student affairs and academic affairs. She is currently the Assistant
Dean and Director of the Undergraduate Colleges at Stony Brook University.
Dr. Germana earned her PhD in Sociology from Rutgers University, where she also taught
introductory courses on sociological topics as well as upper-division courses on gender
and sexuality. Prior to coming to Stony Brook, Dr. Germana taught in the Gender Studies
program at John Jay College of Criminal Justice - CUNY and was the Associate Director
of Academic Programs for First-Year Students. Her work included multi-disciplinary
curriculum development and assessment. Dr. Germana also previously worked in residential
education, with a focus on first-year transitions, and served as a director of a summer
academic program at Stanford University. In her current role, Dr. Germana is responsible
for the Undergraduate Colleges, six first-year academic communities that include first-year
seminars, customized advising and support, and co-curricular programming. She also
coordinates five interdisciplinary minors through the Undergraduate College Academies.
