Christina Vargas, MS
Christina Vargas is the Chief Diversity Officer at Suffolk County Community College and serves as the College-wide Title IX Coordinator. She has responsibility for developing, leading, providing oversight and meeting strategic initiatives and priorities related to diversity and inclusion for faculty, staff and students. She was a member of the SUNY Diversity Task Force that provided system-wide recommendations to the Chancellor and Board of Trustees. She previously spent 20 years of her career at Stony Brook University, serving as Director of Diversity and Affirmative Action/Title IX Coordinator and in this role oversaw University-wide planning, compliance, training, educational efforts, anti-discrimination policies, and harassment complaint resolution for all academic and administrative areas, Stony Brook Medicine and the Long Island State Veteran’s home. Throughout her career, she has displayed a passion for social justice, multiculturalism, inclusion and diversity and has worked to bring various communities together in partnership.
Ms. Vargas is the co-chair of the Board of Directors for ERASE Racism, Inc. (Education, Research, Advocacy and Support to Eliminate Racism) whose mission is to engage in research, advocacy and broad based education regarding institutional and structural racism in the Long Island region. Ms. Vargas was the President of Stony Brook University’s Alumni Association, represented over 140,000 alumni, and is one of the founders of the Black and Latino Alumni Group. Her many contributions have earned Ms. Vargas multiple awards and recognition including the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service. Ms. Vargas received her Bachelor of Science in Business Management and her Master of Science in Management and Policy from Stony Brook. She holds a Diversity Management Certification as an Advanced Practitioner from Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
