Admissions

ESOL program:
To be admitted into the ESOL cohort program, the following are required:
  1. Students must have completed a bachelor’s or a master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education and meet the minimum 3.0 GPA requirement. Each applicant must submit a personal statement that describes the applicant's unique qualifications, experience and ways in which this program will help advance his or her professional and personal goals. 
  2. Provide unofficial transcripts showing degree completion.
  3. Attain at least a 3.0 (B) cumulative GPA for all graduate courses taken at any institution(s) prior to matriculation into this program.
  4. The $25 non-matriculated application fee has been waived for this cohort.
BE Program:
To be admitted into the BE cohort program, the following are required:
  1. Candidates must hold a master's degree, or be enrolled in a master's degree program, from an accredited institution of higher education.
  2. Candidates must be practicing, professionally licensed, in-service teachers seeking an additional certification or those currently enrolled in a teaching certification program.
  3. Candidates must have a graduate GPA of 3.0 (exceptions may occasionally be made with appropriate documentation and at the discretion of the director of the program).
  4. ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) rating in Spanish of Advanced Low or above .
  5. The $25 non-matriculated application fee has been waived for this cohort.
The program will ensure that candidates are committed to completing the program and teaching for two years in ESOL and/or Bilingual Education by requiring the following:
  • The teacher-candidate’s signature on the application form indicating their commitment to completion of the program and teaching for two years in the district. If the teacher-candidate does not complete the program or the two-year teaching requirement, the teacher candidate will be required to return the tuition for the program.
  • An official representative of the school district must also sign a letter of commitment agreeing to employ the candidate for two years upon completion.
