About Stony Brook Southampton
The Hamptons is an area of unparalleled beauty, with a rich cultural heritage in the arts. For over 35 years, world-class writers have gathered at our seaside campus to teach, mingle, read, discuss, argue, discover, laugh and schmooze.
To join the Children’s Literature Fellows is to join a vibrant campus that gathers together graduate programs in theater, film and creative writing. It's an arts colony for credit. Today's professional practice demands well-rounded, independent, entrepreneurial imaginations, ones with the resourcefulness to draw on a range of media, technologies and genres. Therefore, the programs at Southampton Arts are defined broadly, to foster exploration of artistic expression in fields outside traditional program borders and to promote collaboration between disciplines in the creation of original work.
Southampton Arts is part of Stony Brook University, widely regarded as one of America’s distinguished institutions of higher learning, and has links to the larger University community, working with the Stony Brook Film Festival as a venue for film students, for example. It also has links with the myriad of other cultural organizations in Southampton, such as Pianofest, and with Manhattan-based groups, such as the MFA in Theatre’s collaboration with the Michael Chekhov Association.
