Sociology 2020 Virtual Degree Conferral Celebration

Nicole SampsonMessage from the Dean, Nicole Sampson

Congratulations Department of Sociology Class of 2020 and to the parents, partners, siblings, and friends who supported them. Thank you for joining us to honor our students and be a part of this special celebration.

The past couple of months have brought new challenges unlike many of us have ever known. I applaud each of you, our amazing Seawolves in your Stony Brook red. Our courageous and dedicated students who did not lose sight of the finish line, eager to complete this phase of your education and achieve your dreams. Our next wave of leaders.

Today, toss your virtual caps in the air. You’ve earned it. You made it!  And it will be an experience you will never forget.

Cheers,

Dean Sampson

Congratulations Seniors of 2020!

On behalf of the department, I’m excited to welcome you to our virtual commencement ceremony. We are all extremely proud of you!

Although we wish that this virtual commencement was in person – particularly since we especially enjoy seeing and celebrating with you and your families – we are glad that we were able to arrange this opportunity to commemorate such a special moment with you.

None of us imagined that the commencement of 2020 would happen in the midst of a pandemic. It has been a challenging time for everyone, and particularly for all of you. Not only did the larger SBU community have to navigate moving to online teaching and learning, but many of us also had to contend with sickness and loss at the same time. Your challenges were exceptional because you had to adapt to this disruption in your final semester as a college student. This is no easy feat. BUT, you all have made it! And, you are here with us virtually on this commencement day!

Congratulations! We share with you an uplifting celebratory spirit. We are so very proud of you!

Finally, here is where you will find information regarding our virtual convocation ceremony. Our speeches and award presentations can all be found on the Department Convocation Video. The awards section provides an overview of the special recognition conferred on some graduates, but to hear more about those honored, please tune into the video! The list of names and information about the speakers is provided under the Speakers section.

Please join with us in celebrating your special day through this virtual commencement ceremony of 2020!
