Undergraduate College/University: Stony Brook University
Major (Minor): Psychology and Sociology
Graduation Year: 2018
Hi everyone! My name is Megan Armstrong.
I am a Long Island native, currently living on the South Shore. I graduated from Stony Brook in December of 2018 with a B.A in Psychology and Sociology. For the past 3 or 4 years I have worked as a recreational therapist and receptionist at the Bristal Assisted Living. My wonderful experience working with the residents there has inspired me to pursue a career as a geriatric psychologist.
I have volunteered at the Social Competence and Treatment Lab for the past year to gain knowledge in developmental psychology. As a member of the recruitment team, I administer phone screens, schedule lab visits, and attend recruitment events where we connect with the community. I have been the leader of the recruitment team for the past semester, where I have gained experience in managing a team. I am currently assisting with a study testing the effectiveness of a growth mindset intervention for reducing depression/ anxiety in children with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
I am looking forward to studying under Dr. Stacey Scott for the next year, where I intend to study development during the latter portion of the lifespan. After completing the Master’s program, I hope to obtain a PhD in clinical psychology and then work as a psychologist, conduct research and teach.
When I am not at work or in the lab you can usually find me in the gym, on a plane to a new place, or lost in a book.
